Here at Heroine Movies world headquarters (HM’s house) we recently came across a Batgirl fan film produced by Breathe Again Entertainment. Only two parts have been released thus far, and we are going to take a look at both of them. The best thing about these particular episodes—they’re free! (And both episodes are embedded below).
Batgirl (Cassandra Cain): Part 1
The story opens up with Detective Harvey Bullock in an interrogation session with a badly beaten Catwoman. Through a flashback, Catwoman reveals to Bullock that she was attacked by a woman in a costume bearing the Batman symbol. The ladies have a short fight which is completely dominated by Batgirl. There really isn’t any fetish material here, unless you count the leather costume worn by Catwoman that definitely highlights her… um… assets.
Back in the interrogation room, Catwoman reveals that she was sure Batgirl was going to kill her but surmises she received an order not to via a communicator in her cowl. Bullock then lets Catwoman in on a little secret. Word on the street is Batman has gone missing. Gotham’s crime rate has recently gone up ,and he hasn’t been responding to the Bat Signal. Batgirl, however, has been making her presence known in his absence. Bullock offers Catwoman a deal: either help him track down this new vigilante or be sent to Arkham Asylum.
Batgirl (Cassandra Cain): Part 2
As this episode opens, we are informed that Harley Quinn has escaped from Arkham Asylum and has taken two doctors hostage. We are then presented with another interrogation room flashback. This time Harley is being questioned by a Detective Allen. The detective doesn’t get very far with his line of questioning, but Harley does reveal that she has an interest in the new Batgirl. Harley believes Batgirl is a bit unstable, and she intends to be the one who pushes her completely over the edge. A sudden explosion rocks the interrogation room and Harley gleefully explains that her ride is here.
Back in the present, Harley has used one of the doctors that she kidnapped as bait. Batgirl approaches the doctor who is tied to a chair with a note in his mouth. Batgirl pulls the note which happens to be booby trapped. Batgirl gets a big whiff of one of Scarecrow’s fear toxins and starts to flail around aimlessly. The episode ends with Harley holding a gun to Batgirl’s head and giving her professional opinion on Batgirl’s psyche.
You just never know what you are going to get with comic book based fan films. I have found the great majority to be poorly made, but this one was very well done. The fight scenes are not overly complex or that well choreographed, but the writing, locations, costume design, and acting are all terrific. The actress that plays Harley Quinn is especially good and is a real joy to watch. I would have no problem paying money to see a fan film of this quality; the fact that it can be watched for free is just a bonus. We will keep an eye out for Part 3.
