It’s been a while since we’ve visited the “Fail-Safe Sisters” universe, and I can’t think of a better character with whom to resume the series than fan-favorite Shadowstar, who finds herself up against the deadly KO Queen. Check out the trailer and my review below.
[Beware spoilers] The film opens up on the beautiful face of Dynamite Doll, who slowly awakens and finds herself tied up to a chair. DD has a camera focused on her, and KO Queen ducks into frame and tells the world that they are about to execute the heroine. Upon hearing this, Dynamite Doll begins to beg for her life but is quickly knocked out by a blow to the top of her head.
In an attempt to lure another Fail-Safe Sister in, KO Queen gives out her location and announces a twenty minute “grace period” until she kills DD. Shadowstar takes the bait, is immediately confronted by the KO Queen, and the fighting beings.
Shadowstar starts fast, landing a hard right cross, a kick to the stomach, and several hard kicks to the face. KO Queen turns things around with a short choke hold and a headbutt. After knocking Shadowstar to the ground, KO Queen slaps on a neck scissors, but Shadowstar is able to eventually power her way out.
SS hits a couple of punches but KO Queen grabs her by the throat and slams her to the ground. She then puts her knee into Shadowstar’s back and wrenches her arms behind her. KO Queen goes to finish her off with a kick, but SS dodges it and lands a kick of her own.
With KO queen on the ground, Shadowstar jumps on top and delivers a series of punches to her face. KO Queen is able to reverse the hold and traps SS in a painful ankle lock. And this is where the story forks into two different endings. One ending features Shadowstar knocking out KO Queen with a punch, the other has KO Queen knocking out SS with a hard kick. I do want to point out that the canon ending isn’t actually definitive. We get a “to be continued” at the end so we don’t learn the final fate of DD or any character for that matter.
In this episode KO Queen got herself a new costume, and I thought it was a tremendous upgrade from her original one. The character and the actress are really growing on me in a similar fashion than Nina Hellfire did in NGC. And what can you say about Shadowstar? She just plays her part to perfection and is flat out one of the most gorgeous women NGC has ever cast. This was well done by all involved, and I’m looking forward to see how this saga plays out.
