– Superheroine Site Review

A reader by the name of gundam20012005 was kind enough to submit the following review of the popular superheroine web site  Rather than a review of an individual video or series of videos, gundam has instead reviewed the site itself, which offers monthly memberships allowing subscribers to access all of the company’s videos.  So, here is gundam’s review:

New Goddess Cinema has been around for a few years now, but they still continue to grow strong with their films and heroines.  Firstly, these heroines can hold their own and are as intelligent as they are strong.  Those of you who are fans of heroines dominating opponents will be pleased that they kick plenty of ass in each film.  One key thing to note when going into these films is that the people making these sites are not nearly as well financed as say The Battle for Earth and Next Global Crisis.  These guys are doing superheroine films on a fairly small scale and they are not trying to do anything beyond what they are capable of.  I have a lot of respect for this and am happy that NGC has continued to prosper even in the shadows of their heavyweight peers.

As mentioned above, the actresses are truly bred for Superheroine action and bring something new to each role they play, no matter how similar the characters are.  One look at Annick Blanchard as Black Widow or Stephanie Aubry as Superior Girl and you will immediately fall in love with these French speaking beauties.  This is also helped by the scripts written for the site.  This is the most natural sounding dialogue I have ever heard in a Superheroine video and it works well.  Best of all, these guys look like they are having fun making these vids and that energy translates to the movies themselves.  Plus, for 29.95 for one non recurring membership, you have a pretty big library of films to choose from (they are up to over 120 now).  Granted, they update only once maybe twice a month so you may or may not get a brand new one depending on when you register, but still it’s a lot of films to watch.

A couple of downsides.  There is plenty of peril.  However, it lasts for no more than seen in the trailers.  So if you’re looking for long lasting scenes of power draining, belt loss action, you may be disappointed.  It’s still good peril nonetheless.  Also, the stories of each video are repetitive, VERY repetitive. At times it looks as though the crew is just testing their plot on as many heroines as they can in the exact same fashion.  It hasn’t been until some of their more recent films that they have begun to break their establish plot molds and try new, sometimes darker approaches to their films.  However the good looking women, the abundance of action and clever dialogue make up for all that.

Positives (+)

1. Beautiful, nay FRACKING GORGEOUS, actresses
2. Natural sounding dialogue
3. Wide range of heroines
4. Nice list of films for $29.95
5. Does what it can with low budget filming

Negatives (-)

1. One maybe two updates depending on when you register
2. Peril doesn’t last very long
3. Some storylines very, VERY repetitive

Thanks for that review, gundam.  I agree with just about all of that.  The girls look great, and for $29.95, you do get a ton of videos to watch.  However, as gundam said, they do become very, very repetitive after a while, with the same basic plot structure repeated with almost every video.  It might be worth it to give it a shot since the costumes are great and the actresses are very attractive.

new goddess was my gateway video, I’ll always love their Black Widow videos, but your best bet is to pay the $29.95 once a year, and download the videos you haven’t seen.

I agree, Dickwad – pay the fee and download all the videos, then wait about a year or so. I don’t see why you would pay every month for only a few new videos at a time (unless you’re a huge fan of their work and don’t want to wait, I guess).

Especially when 90% are going to be the exact same story with a different heroine …

I also completely agree with the sentiments here. But I’d go even further to say that the repetition is almost laughable! Not only is single the plot running through each video repetitive, but the action moves are always the same. For example, the heroine will ALWAYS catch the villain’s punch in her hand and squeeze, causing the villain to go down on to his/her knees. Very occasionally someone has a flash of imagination and has a supervillain(ess) do this to the heroine – though the dominant role reversal is always temporary :(

Then there’s the chin lift that happens in every video.

I have paid for subscriptions to this site several times, at long intervals as the other commenters have done. I find it frustrating because they are *so close* to being superb, mess it up with this ridiculous repetitiveness. It’s such a pity because a bit of imagination and a few tweaks would make the videos far better.

The other downside is that the video resolution is very low – like the resolution you’d expect 10 years ago or more. New-goddess really needs to get into the 2nd millennium – many sites do HD video now but even SD would be an improvement.

Nemesis, I think you’re right about the repetition. And don’t forget the heroine grabbing one of the bad guys by the throat, lifting him, and then tossing him to the ground. It happens in almost all of their videos that I’ve seen. :)

Still, I think it’s worth checking out. The heroines are usually super attractive and the costumes look really good. You’re right that the video quality is lower, but I think it’s definitely worth paying the monthly fee and downloading a ton of videos.

The Blue Angel series is great. She’s attractive, cocky and usually ends up getting her ass kicked. Unfortunately, the fights just don’t last long enough.

I like New Goddess Cinema and have watched its films many times and probably will again. My one question is with the last Red Hot movie. I had the feeling it was a two part movie and that another one was coming since the last one left that impression. Has the actress retired? I do like her as Bionic Girl though.

I’ve always liked DC Comics’ “Supergirl” heroine and New-Goddess has presented many storylines with this superheroine – Superior Girl, Super Julie, Super Jade, and Super Mary. These characters all feature most of SG’s superpowers – super strength, super breath, etc. – except for the ability to fly which would involve expensive super effects. As mentioned above, all the SG-like superheroines in the videos are beautiful, fit actresses with good acting and speaking skills and they seem very natural on the screen. Now that the site can be accessed an unlimited number of times for $10 for one month, I plan to check out all of the super heroines !!

Lets face it, no one goes to the site if you want good quality acting for a Superheroine site (I certainly don’t- I mean, the “acting” is so horrendous, especially in “Marvellous Woman” and “Super Amazon” ,it defies belief…Lauren, stick to female bodybuilding please) and the acting and locations IS repetitive and tiresome…but what the hell, the site’s worth accessing just to see Annick Blanchard and Stephanie Aubry (she was absolutely s*** hot looking in Superior Girl). My real complaint is that I do wish they could do a lot more super strength scenes rather than just the usual throat lifts (there was only three films I can think of that had additional strength scenes OTHER than throat lifts or the very occasional crowbar bending, “Superior Girl” and I think “Ultra Girl” where the superheroine punches a metal post, or/and lifts a large table one handed. The other one was the first Marvellous Woman film where the superheroine does a overhead lift of the villian (not badly done neither, I might add.)
