Steve Noir’s “Revecca: Resident Virus” from SHG-Media

The “plot” of Revecca: Resident Virus is a simple as it gets—Revecca, our heroine, sneaks into a mysterious building and gets overpowered by a female zombie-like creature who torments her and experiments on her.  That’s about it.  But labyrinthine plotting clearly isn’t the objective here; style is king in the world of Steve Noir.  And right from the outset, the dark, gloomy visual tone establishes an unsettling mood.  Revecca—in a sexy outfit that resembles something Lara Croft might wear if: a) it was chilly outside, 2) she had received medical training, 3) she had developed an infatuation with ripped, blue stockings, and 4) she lived in a world overtaken by zombies—cautiously explores an abandoned building from outside.

Revecca make her way into the building and explores a couple of rooms.  The zombie slowly creeps up on her from behind and uses a syringe to inject her with a chemical that renders her unconscious.  The zombie slowly caresses our unconscious heroine as her gaze lingers over her body for several minutes.  Finally, Revecca is loaded onto a wheelchair, taken into another room and dumped onto a mattress.

The zombie slowly removes a couple of items of Revecca’s costume (her gas mask and satchel) as Revecca lies helplessly unconscious.  She then rolls Revecca over on her stomach and ties her up in a “cow tied” position (tying her wrists and feet together).  Revecca awakens and struggles to get free, but the zombie returns with another injection, which causes Revecca to lapse back into unconsciousness (the actress’s reactions are great here).

Revecca is then tied down to a table and examined and touched some more by the evil zombie.  The zombie creature then brings a battery (or similar device) and administers electric shocks to the unconscious Revecca.  The zombie then removes her own mask and drools black goo (ewww…) before kissing Revecca on the mouth!  The video fades to black, and a title cared reads, “The end…?”

I really liked Revecca: Resident Virus, and I think this is my favorite of Steve Noir’s videos.  There’s very little action, but there’s a lot of interesting stuff happening if you’re into the video’s meticulous pace and focus on tone and atmosphere.  Steve Noir’s videos are less Michael Bay and more Terence Malik.  Or less John Woo and more Stanley Kubrick.  With a twist of George Romero.  (Okay, sorry, I’m getting carried away with film director references.)  I like Steve Noir’s videos because they’re so different from the typical videos in the heroine-peril genre.  That’s not at all to say that other videos are bad; it’s simply to observe that sometimes something totally off-kilter can be really interesting.
