4k / HEVC – SHL
This is a heads up. All of my future films (Starting with Supergirl: The END of SHL) I am aiming to have 4k as an option for download. But because of storage/server/bandwidth considerations: 4K will only be available with HEVC compression. No exceptions.
I will still support older codecs for consideration to those who do not have the latest equipment to support 4k playback. But if you have no clue what HEVC is, now is the time to become educated as my newer content will be available in the very near future.
Here is an article from two years ago about HEVC, it also contains information for both Mac and Windows users as far as compatibility etc.
Are we still on track for an April release?
Any news for The End of SHL?Wait for a long time.
Before the end of the month
Will I be able to still get this in the older format, if I don’t have HEVC?
“I will still support older codecs for consideration to those who do not have the latest equipment to support 4k playback.”
4k will only be HEVC
Normal sizes will be available in non-HEVC
With all due respect, seeing maybe a fourth or fifth separate article relating to a film we’ve been waiting for seven months to see is rather ridiculous. I mean no disrespect but I think it’s fair to express frustration at this point.
I think it’s fair to be frustrated by the setbacks.
In the meantime, make sure you got that HEVC support ready to go by the time the film the comes out, if you want to check it out in 4k.
Amazing, so when can we expect the new supergirl movie?
simple question – can I buy it and download it or there is a whole production of things I need to do to my computer to see the vid after I pay for it?
Usually it just requires a software update. But that really depends on your computer hardware. The article explains the updates Windows requires to support it. Most Mac hardware should be able to playback. I think iPhone 6s and above support the format?
A real pro
I am good to go. Thanks for the update Damien and I’m excited to see someone migrating to 4k.
I am a believer you should never shoot in your native format of release. And in this case, I’ll be down-rezzing to release at 4k.
So I am comfortable with aiming for all 4k releases from here on out.
