NGC Championship: Spectrum v Dominator
Dominator turned her back on the light many years ago, and Spectrum has never forgiven her. Dominator isn’t looking for forgiveness however, she just wants to inflict maximum pain on the proud superheroine, and with the Announcer’s help she will do just that!
This will be a true grudge match.
Spectrum starts the fight well and is soon ready to show off her powers, but as ever in the Championship, the odds are stacked against the heroines. The Announcer has used 7th Dimension power to make ‘alterations’ to Spectrum’s powers, and they react in the opposite way to their intention. This is enough to give Dominator an edge that she will not relinquish.
What follows is a merciless destruction and multiple KO’s of the kind Dominator gave to the Depectress in the past. Spectrum is hammered and squashed all over the ring as well as humiliated when Dominator begins to strip her of cape and boots, leaving Spectrum looking like an entertainment slave rather than a superheroine. Does Dominator pin Spectrum after each KO or just at the end?
I would tend to agree with some of the below posts. Spectrum does have a rather goofy and over-selling aspect to her expressions and reactions. I also tend to not like that as much. While all of these videos have an element of ‘selling’ the fights and most are a bit campy at times, she does take it to a new level. That’s why I like BB and Deceptress as they handle with with a bit more realism. Just a personal preference at the end of the day. A little late to the gathering (again) and I’m not going to directly address what others have written, but obviously some of us seem to have had some similar reactions. First, I’m going out on a limb, but here goes: Spectrum is a very attractive woman. No matter what she does, wow is she good looking. The Dominator isn’t a slouch in that department either, and while her ring skills are a major asset, she’s not a bad actress, as demonstrated in her recent two-parter with Virtue. So I felt pretty bad posting that highly critical review yesterday as it tends to be something I avoid doing. And this was a Spectrum video, a heroine I probably have an unhealthy obsession over. Surely there’s something I can find to like in it. Sure enough there is. I’d state that my criticism previously, harsh as it may be, still stands. The selling of peril by Spectrum was a tough one. I just read over this comment carefully (I’d skimmed it before making my own above) and I’d totally forgotten that Dr. Crumm was also the scientist behind Celestia’s “Trial”. It’s an embarrassing lapse on my part, given how often I’ve watched that episode. We also learned in that episode that Dominator had worked for him, as Spectrum states in the current video. She also worked with Filth back then, although they apparently had a falling out (Dominator objects strongly to being called Filth’s friend in “Corruption, Pt. 1”.) I bought this video for the Dominator. She’s pretty much an automatic buy for me and I’m not disappointed, I really like this character and I’d love to see her in a stand alone story of her own (maybe an origin story?). She’s got some great moves and she oozes attitude. She sold the pain well too when she was, briefly, on the receiving end. Dominators destruction of Spectrum here doesn’t quite reach the heights of her destruction of Virtue in ‘Corruption’ but that’s probably due to the nature of the NGC championship; I do feel that the combat looses… Read more »
Wow. RyonaKing really went to town on Spectrum below…………. And unfortunately I agree with a lot of what he said. The situation I find myself having to write this is just the worst and I was tempted to say nothing but RyonaKing kinda liberated me here. What if you watch with the sound down? The sound on my computer is shit, so I pretty much watch all of these with the sound down. If the facial and physical reactions are okay… maybe fill in the sounds with your imagination? You’ve already bought it, right?

I must say I am very dissapointed for this one. And even though I appreciate the longer length, that I wish a lot of my favorites would have gotten an extension, it comes at an increased price with a video I did not like. I’ll just get straight to the point. I really disliked the way Spectrum sold the moves this vid. Kinda like “the submissions are so painful for her, she doesn’t even make a sound.” That doesn’t work for me at all. They are definitely one of the best (if not THE best) as far as quality of production goes. I personally think they could be even better though if they just put more effort into other areas that they are lacking. I really wish they stepped up their combat aspect more. All of their combat sequences are always very light and very cautious, so it really comes off really fake looking. I understand where you’re coming from, I really do.
However, I believe that there needs to be at least 1 producer that has high productions values such as NGC that is ‘lighter’ than the rest. I miss episode structure that NGC had, as it was truly story driven and tend to actually have a more comic-book feel to it.
In other words, not all producers need to be focused in utterly destroying heroines. It is nice to have the option as a buyer/consumer to be able to pick a ‘lighter’ tone super heroine video. NGC, imo, is good as is.
Not saying they always have to destroy their heroines, but right now they tend to repeat the same formula for a lot of their videos. Their stories do vary, which is great, but the fight sequences are very similar and dull compared to others in the genre. Also when I said “lighter” previously, I was more so referring to the way they execute and sell their fight sequences and choreography. I’m with you as far as making them more heroic. Generally it ebbs and flows and the pendulum swings one way then the other, perhaps it is too far one way.
Regarding fight choreography, could you give me an example of someone else’s video where you thought it was very good, perhaps I can learn something, or there is a good reason why it is a particular way.
Don’t worry. As soon as you make the changes to making the heroines more heroic, a group of us are going to start complaining that there ISN’T enough peril anymore. lol In all seriousness though, I sorta understand where Paul is coming from in making the heroines more heroic/more powerful. However it’s also the case that in the NGC universe, the villains have tended to be more powerful than their heroine counterparts and it’s the girls’ powers that have tended to even the score. I voted for Spectrum to win on principle and preference. Sure, I love to see her be defeated, but we get the lose ending in Championship videos regardless of what the canonical outcome is. As Darkwrath notes, Spectrum is already 0-3, while Dominator is 4-0. I absolutely love the fact that you said “preserve the dignity of a warrior who should be more than a joke” cause I totally agree. The reason why I’ve gotten so worked up about it is because the mental image I have of Spectrum is that of a mighty and powerful warrior. It is such a large part of her appeal for me. Once more I’m conflicted. So extremely excited that my girl Spectrum is back in action. I’ll keep on saying it. She is, without question, my absolute all-time favorite and I completely adore her. Probably a bit too much. At the same time, I’m going through bouts of depression since more likely than not, she’s about to suffer her fourth loss in a row.
