Has “Captain Marvel” Already Been Cast?

Rumors have circulated recently that Marvel has already cast its (female) Captain Marvel, and that the new film The Avengers: Age of Ultron will conclude with a scene in which Captain Marvel is introduced to audiences as a part of the new and improved Avengers team. There’s no word yet on whom Marvel has cast in the role (despite lots of speculation), but movie-news site Latino Review has some more information about the character’s place in upcoming films:

RT! HOT #MARVEL #RUMOR ABOUT #CAPTAINMARVEL #SPOILER Apparently, from what I'm being told, the rumor is that the studio has cast the role of Carol Danvers & keeping it top secret. I'm also being told we will first see her in #AVENGERS #AgeofUltron as originally written in previous drafts of the screenplay. In terms of the standalone film, the Marvel brain trust has blocked out the plot & story with the intention of bringing an established writer to write the script. Comic writer Kelly Sue DeConnick wanted to take a crack at writing the screenplay but I'm not sure if she got the gig. Also, I'm told legendary comic writer Jim Starlin, who has a rich history with Captain Marvel is aboard the project as a consultant. All of the above is #UNCONFIRMED so take with grain of salt until further notice but it's within the realm of plausibility.

Captain Marvel is due out summer 2018, I doubt they have the role cast yet. I’m guessing if there is a cameo of her in the upcoming Avengers 2 movie it will be of a female pilot, that you won’t be able to see who they are behind the helmet and oxygen mask, flying into some energy beam.

Well Kaizar you are certainly in the minority opinion there. I would say most people, including me, loved or at least liked the first Avengers movie. I am sure everyone could say ‘I would have liked to see this’ or pick apart the way they went. But to say it sucked sooo much is really pretty out there. Not realistically sure what they could have done that was much better.

On Natalie Dormer already being in a Marvel movie. I agree with the counter point that her character was fairly insignificant. I think it would only apply If she was a known/named character. She was basically a random soldier girl who was there to kiss Rogers, nothing more. I don’t think many ppl will have an issue if she is cast as Captain Marvel.

The first 3D movie let me down, but imguess I’ll give Avengers 2 a chance.

At least I got the 3D out of the crappy first Avengers movie, but the movie just sucked soo much.

Is it safe to assume that the Captain Marvel 3D movie will be added to 2016’s list of 3D movies?, or will it come out in a later year? (if this story is true)

I’m with Steve. Much more interested in the next Stormy Tempest than anything Captain Marvel related.

A CultRetro sighting! Any chance of new Stormy Tempest on the horizon? I am still desperate for more!!!

I don’t think Natalie Dormer’s role was big or memorable enough to exclude her from headlining a Marvel movie in 2018. If anything, I think it just shows she is already on their radar, along with Blunt.

JadeOwl – I lived in Seattle when Howard the Duck was being shot. I walked past part of the set every day.
I could take you to the exact spot in the alley where Howard landed on earth….if its still there. Lots of changes since those days.

Otherwise, I think this is great news! I really hope its someone we’ve never heard of before, or maybe only heard of / seen, in passing. What a great opportunity for a burgeoning actress to make herself known to the public.

  7. Thanatos says:

Natalie Dormer has already played a character in a Marvel movie, so that would be odd.

  8. CultRetro says:

They were looking at Emily Blunt back in 2012. I’d only be surprised if it’s not her: https://www.cultretro.com/coulson-returns-and-emily-blunt-as-ms-marvel/

  9. Steve says:

I’m guessing Natalie Dormer or Emily Blunt. It has to be someone around the right age with a reasonable level of fame and success.

It wouldn’t surprise me. If there’s one thing Marvel is good at is keeping secrets. Especially if she shows up in the after-credits sequence.

I mean… Howard the Duck?! Who even suspected it.

I just hope it’s one of the ones I’m rooting for… Katheryn Winnick, Rachel Nichols, Yvonne Strahovski, and so forth.
