Joss said in the interview that he won’t be doing Burnside Batgirl (thank Bob!) and that he will be basing it on Gail Simone’s New 52 run from 2011-ish. Up until #34 the art was great, the costume was sexy, and even if a few PC elements were introduced (her transwoman roomate for example) the whole atmosphere was still reminiscent of Simone’s Bird of Prey run. Then when Cameron Stewart took over on #35 it’s been hipsters, selfies and Doc Martens ever since, continuing through to the Rebirth book. So hopefully we get something at least close to the Simone… Read more »

He’s just going to make her into Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Not sure how I feel about that.

Or Dollhouse? That was a weird one.

Im a big Buffy fan, even though it could have been less jokey and darker, so I’ll be interested to see Whedons take on Bat Girl who, due to the fact she has no super powers, to me is the sexiest superheroine of all.

Yeah, isn’t he kind of iffy? Buffy is pleasant enough until “Buffy-bot” came around, after that it was just …. well, “WHO ARE THESE CHARACTERS?!?” For Batgirl, as long as she’s tied up and unmasked I’m good.

Is there ANY chance the Batgirl outfit will be anything like the one used for the bulk of Batgirl’s tenure? I sadly doubt it.

A few options here. A somewhat armored look like Nolan’s Batman(least likely), a textured suit like Affleck’s Batman(likely), or Biker Batgirl like in the current comics(most likely I guess). If the costume is Biker Batgirl, this movie will be an easy pass. The current costume makes zero sense in the comics and is strictly made so because of different marketing. Babs was Oracle for a few years, massive amounts of connections. She knows Batman. Are you really telling me she’s still running around in her homemade emergency biker gear after her suit got destroyed? God damn just order a new… Read more »

Batgirl, yes. Whedon: No, please! His best stuff is some twenty years ago. The best stuff on “Angel” were the episode not he, but David Greenwald wrote.

The one episode he wrote for “Dollhouse” season 1 was just dreadful. It became a much better show in its second season without much input from his side. The 1st Avengers movie was fun, but does not hold up. Recently re-watched Age of Ultron. Yes, still bad, except for the introduction of Vison. So, NO!

The TV show Doll House was abysmal, actually worse than abysmal.the second season was horrendous.

No it wasn’t. It sort of got good in its second season. But to each his own and can actually understand why you feel it was bad.

The only thing going for Doll House was Eliza Dushku, Faith from Buffy; that episode when she wore a tight, black leather outfit was the best by far.

Apologies for the off topic side note, but I recall Horse had mentioned a Coco video. Any chance you can elaborate on the outfit and/or plot on an appropriate thread?

And I agree with your assessment. Here’s hoping we get something close to a skin-tight Batgirl outfit.

Sadly had to postpone it. Lots of work and work pays the rent. But I heard others were onto it i.e. their might be something in the works. And with Whedon, who calls himself a feminist, sadly no dice on a tight costume. He wrote a WW script for WB some years ago and it was canned immediately for being dreadful. Please WB: not Whedon unless you want a seventeen year old girl who talks like a hipster (which is basically what we have now in the comic books). However, since the movie is based on the New52 version (according… Read more »

Thanks for the response and sorry to hear that. Hopefully some good financial dealings in the near future.
As for the Batgirl situation, I agree with your assessment. I’m definitely not holding my breath on this one.

Was Whedon’s arm twisted on Dollhouse? Was Black Widow’s zipper where it was over his vehement objection? I don’t think Whedon has a problem with sexy ladies, as long as they ultimately subvert the damsel-in-distress trope.

And is it just me or does the New52 Batgirl seem tailor-made for The CW?

Now don’t go dissing Whedon and expect to get away without a fight! Buffy earns Joss a lifetime pass from criticism, and that’s not even counting Angel, Firefly, Serenity and the first Avengers movie. He’s got more talent than any three of us freaks put together. If Whedon makes a Batgirl movie, I’ll be seeing it and so will everyone else reading this.

If you are such a fan, may I suggest you check out his run on X-Men, Astonishing X-Men with John Cassaday on art. He followed Grant Morrison, a tough act to follow, and did a great job. Of course the man is talented, and way more taleted than any three freaks of us put together. I have no talent whatsoever, so here is that 🙂 But he is also highly hit and miss in my opinion. Will I see a Batgirl movie written and directed by him? Of course I will. But based on his track record and on his… Read more »

I have a fire take and it goes like this: DCEU should ditch the “U” and stick with one shots and trilogies
