With Marvel’s The Avengers taking the world by storm, we thought it would be interesting to write up a quick post about it and provide a place for comments. What did you think? Was it everything you hoped it would be and more? Was it Johansson-centric enough? Discuss below! [Read more…]
Here’s the trailer for an interesting project which will debut at this year’s SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. It’s a documentary called Wonder Women: The Untold Story of American Superheroines and apparently examines the history of superheroines in American popular culture (using Wonder Woman as the primary focus). It even features our friend George Pérez, as well as Lynda Carter, Lindsay Wagner, and others. Check out the trailer below! [Read more…]
Here’s a bit of mainstream news that may be of interest to superheroine fans (or just comic book film fans). Today, Heroine Movies takes a detour into mainstream territory with a review of Colombiana starring the beautiful Zoe Saldana as a stone-cold assassin on a bloodthirsty quest for revenge. I can’t say that I enjoyed the movie, but I can say that it gave me a massive headache. [Read more…]

According to “Entertainment Weekly,” NBC has decided to pass on the new reboot of “Wonder Woman” starring Adrianne Palicki. Why, after spending millions of dollars shooting the pilot, would the network choose not to go forward with the project? EW has a few details: [Read more…]

Moviegoers everywhere can now treat themselves to Sucker Punch, the new fetishy action / adventure / fantasy / explosion / robot movie from director Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen, That Weird Movie with Owls). I have yet to see this film, but I thought it might be an interesting topic of discussion for those of you who have seen it or at least have an opinion about it. Sucker Punch is basically being eviscerated by critics (it has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 22%), and to me, even with my love of hot girls fighting and doing action-y things, it looks pretty uninteresting, and I have no plans to see it. What about you? [Read more…]
The iconic role of Wonder Woman will be played in David E. Kelley’s new NBC mini-series by Adrianne Palicki, who previously starred in the recent short-lived series “Lone Star.” Deadline.com has more details, including this interesting tidbit:
Palicki won the role of Wonder Woman, closely associated with Lynda Carter, who played Diana Prince in the 1970s series, in a decisive manner – she was the only actress invited to test for it. Wonder Woman reunites Palicki with the pilot’s director Jeff Reiner who previously served as director/co-executive producer on Friday Night Lights for the series’ early run on NBC.

A new “Wonder Woman” television series is currently in development and is being masterminded by David E. Kelly, the prolific creator of several well-known TV series including “Ally McBeal,” “The Practice,” “Boston Legal,” and several other shows—even a few which don’t involve law firms. The project is still in the early stages, but reportedly, Kelly has met with the DC Comics team to discuss the possibilities. The project isn’t attached to any particular network yet, but I would be very surprised if this doesn’t receive the green light and make its way to our television sets (or computer screens) in the very near future. I normally don’t discuss mainstream movies or TV shows on this site. Hollywood productions involving action and female lead characters are usually pretty boring to me. I can’t think of one off the top of my head that I’ve actually enjoyed watching. And yet I love independently produced action/adventure/fantasy films available on the internet, typically produced on shoe-string budget and designed to appeal to somewhat specialized audiences. But I’m not opposed to mainstream “action heroine” entertainment, especially when it features a very sexy lead actress like Maggie Q. So tonight I watched the premiere episode of The CW’s Nikita. Here are my initial impressions: [Read more…]
